While these words could come out of the mouths of any number of motivational speakers, they're actually the opening lyrics to "Liberty Walk," the first track on Miley Cyrus' Can't Be Tamed album. While everyone hits a point at which one's individuality is discovered and explored, few do it in as public a forum as the one-time Miss Montana, who has grown up on cable and in the mass media.The singer and actress asserts her identity both through many techno-pop arrangements and declarative lyrics. Hearing the Moroder-worthy synthesizer sequences on "Who Owns My Heart" or the snippet of Auto-Tuned vocals on "Permanent December," one is reminded of two other one-time teen pop princess, of Kylie Minogue's entire career arc and Christina Aguilera's latest effort, Bionic. Even Cyrus' earnest cover of Poison's "Every Rose Has Its Thorn" employs a keyboard bassline and a drum machine.
